You're enthusiastic Family and Brand Photographer based out of Lehi, Utah. Ready to dive into your vision for your images. I love sharing my knowledge that I've gained after being a professional for over 10 years! Send me your questions!
Raise your hand if your current profile photo is a blurry crop from someone else’s wedding, a selfie with your dog (adorable but not exactly professional), or worse—a blank silhouette. Don’t worry; you’re not alone! But here’s the deal: in today’s online world, your profile picture is often your first impression. Whether you’re a business owner, climbing the corporate ladder, or growing your network, your photo should say, “Hey look at me! I’m confident, approachable, and I know my stuff.”
Your profile picture should reflect you. It’s about showing your personality in a way that feels authentic but still fits your professional brand. Are you a financial consultant? A polished, sharp look might be the way to go. A creative entrepreneur? A splash of bold color or a fun accessory could help you stand out. The goal is to connect with your audience while staying aligned with the message you want to send.
Now being a photographer I’m here to tell you that at some point paying for a professional is definitely worth the investment. As a photographer I’m thinking about things like what’s the best lighting situation for you, what will be a nice clean background that won’t distract from your face, and (if you’re lucky enough to work with someone like me) I’ll give you tips on what to wear!
When it comes to what you wear, choose something that makes you feel great and fits your industry. Simple, solid colors often photograph best and keep the focus on you. Neutrals like navy, gray, and white are timeless, but if your brand is all about bold colors, go ahead and work that pop of red or teal. Just steer clear of loud patterns or anything that might distract from your face. And don’t forget to give your outfit a quick once-over with an iron or steamer—wrinkles never impress.
Relaxing in front of the camera can feel easier said than done, but trust me, it’s the secret sauce for a great photo. Try practicing a smile in the mirror to find what feels natural. I know that sounds silly but if you’re not a natural in front of the camera this practice can really make a difference in your photo. If you’re not a fan of big smiles, a calm, confident expression works just as well. The key is to look approachable, not like you’re plotting world domination—unless, of course, that’s your brand!
Now how often should you be updating your profile picture? If it’s been a few years, or you’ve changed up your look significantly, it’s time for a refresh. Your photo should feel current and reflect the person people will meet when they connect with you online. You don’t want to cat fish anyone right??
A great profile picture is more than just a nice photo—it’s an investment in how you present yourself to the world. It’s a chance to show that you’re confident, approachable, and ready to take on whatever comes next. So if you’re tired of hiding behind selfies or outdated snaps, let’s change that. I promise we’ll have fun, keep it relaxed, and create something that makes you excited to show up online.
